Sky Valley Pride

You have NO idea how long this took me: not a freaking clue.
I started this about a year ago but then promptly dropped it because I was busy with other things. Then I decided to attempt to finish this about a month ago and nearly died in the effort doing so. There are 14 characters in this, 14 different characters that had to be individually drawn, colored and shaded. Every time I thought I was close to getting finished, that one more push would see it done, I'd find out that it need even more time and work to be put in. Days of slaving away at something that was supposed to be fun turned into my own personal torture. NEVER AGAIN!!!!
If I EVER decide to draw up a image with multiple characters again, it will NOT be to the same quality as you see here (likely it will be more simplified). I'm not going through such a nightmare again.
Now to steer away from that raving bit, this was originally supposed to serve two purposes. The first was a excuse to practice a new style of drawing for backgrounds. The second was to give you a good idea of what the Sky Valley Pride looks like in day to day life (and who's mated to who).
Something you might not expect is that I drew each character and their mate based on ranking. Starting at the top right we have Ni and his mate Kula. Ni holds the rank of King in the pride (even though he and Mheetu sort of share the thrown/title) and Kula is the alpha huntress of the pride: they'd be considered the highest rank in the pride and thus I put them on the highest point in the image. To their left is Mheetu and his mate Penda: Mheetu is co-king with Penda taking the role as queen so of course the are the next highest sharing rank with Kula and Ni. To the far left top is Tojo with Fedha: Tojo is the shaman of the pride and holds a rank that surpasses all but the king(s) and queen. Fedha would be the lowest rank female for her poor hunting/tracking skills if it weren't for the fact she opted to become Tojo's personal assistant (after the pride grew in number) so she holds the same rank as him. Below them is Geche and Chumvi, Chumvi holds the 2nd rank out of the Border Warriors but Geche is the lowest ranked pridesister. Thus they are some where in the lower middle. Going more right again we have the Captain of the Border Warriors with Keki: as the captain, Chuma is the highest ranked of the three and his mate is the highest ranked of the pridesisters (just below Penda and Kula). Below thos two are the lowest ranked pair Tama and Cheshi: Tama is a midranked pridesister but was late intergrate into the pride dynamic while Cheshi always was the lowest ranked Border Warrior. Not that they really care. And finally, to the far right below Mheetu and co. is Azwel and Hasna: these two have no ranked as both have retired after the service they've preformed over the years. They spend their days enjoying the lazing about in each others company and looking forward to when the pride finally gets little cubs for the elderly pair look after. Which will be happening sooner then they expect.
